The day before the Swan reunion Loren, Nate and I went to visit my Grandpa Rigby who had taken a turn for the worse. It was clear that he wouldn't be around for much longer. I introduced him to Jace and he said Loren and I need to have ten more babies. It was hard to see him like that. My heart hurt, especially for my dad who was helping to take care of him. Apparently the next day he stopped responding so I was grateful I had that time with him.
This is Grandpa with his younger sister, Ruth.
I've always loved this picture of my grandparents.
We hung out at my parents a lot that week and Hudson got some quality uncle time. He's pretty lucky.
Grandpa passed away peacefully in the arms of my grandma and surrounded by his sons and their wives. I got the text from my dad the night we were at the barn for the Swan reunion. It hit harder than I thought it would. We left early so I could go see him. When I got to my grandparents house there was a few other cousins there along with my aunts and uncles. I hugged my dad for a long time. I was able to see Grandpa before the mortuary came. He was so peaceful but it was a lot to see him lying lifeless. To see someone whose always been in your life suddenly not there is hard to process. It was good to be with my family and feel those feelings together.
The funeral was planned for the next Saturday. During the week Lydia started her first day of third grade! She was excited and loves her teacher. I think it's going to be a great year for her.
Allie lost her front tooth! The other one is super wiggly so it's a matter of time before that one falls out. What a cute smile.
We went to the viewing on Friday night. I can't even imagine how many bananas Grandpa ate in his lifetime. Apparently there's a picture of him holding his 5,000th banana so well over that. Grandpa battled diabetes for forty years and was the healthiest diabetic I've ever met. Grandpa loved his tractor and spent a lot of time plowing snow off the driveway and moving dirt. He also served in the Army Reserves and almost was sent to Pork Chop Hill but arrived three days after thankfully.
The funeral was really nice. All of my uncles spoke and did well but my dad's talk really came from his heart. He was really stressed about it the days leading up to the funeral, but it turned out just perfect. I love him so much.
The pallbearers:
Left to Right: Todd, Tyler, Matt, Michael, Jeffrey, Ryan, Daniel, Jacob, Bradly, Nate, Cam and Brayden
There was a touching tribute given by the American Legion. I love my sweet Grandma so much.
I love us.
Kaleb is buried close to Grandpa. We love him.
I love my Rigby family!
We spent the rest of the weekend relaxing with each other. I can't even handle this picture.
So fun to see these cute little cousins together. Lucy and Adeline.
I guess occasionally I'll post of picture of me too. Love my Jace boy.
We've felt a lot emotions these past couple weeks. We miss you, Grandpa, and love you forever.
