Out With the Old, In With the New

It's taken me forever to get this post up! It sounds like everyone had a fantastic thanksgiving (or thanksgiving's in the peck's case). Last week just flew by. I was so excited to have Loren home all week and have some quality time with Lydia. I was sure that a week would be plenty of time off, but now that it's over I'd really like another.
One afternoon we walked on the Chessie Trail. Loren had never been there before (except when he was little), so we had a fun time. It feels like you're walking through the forest with the sing-song of the river nearby. Pure rejuvenation. Michelle and I get together with the mom's club on Tuesday mornings and we walk about a mile or two on the trail. It's one of my favorite places to be.

Everybody say cheese!

One of Loren's classmates invited us to her home for the big dinner. There was also a professor from the school and a family from the czeck republic there. We decided to be ambitious for Thanksgiving and cook things we never had before. Loren made an apple pie and sweet potatoes while I worked on homemade rolls and a cherry cheesecake. We also threw a veggie tray together. Besides almost burning the house down with the drippings from the pie in the oven, it was a successful morning. Below is a picture of the chaos our kitchen was in.

Dessert! Pecan, pumpkin, apple and cherry cheesecake pies. Can you see that bear of a dog in the background? This dog was the most entertaining thing for lydia since the balloon. She loved watching it out the window and squealed when it jumped up close to her face. We spent 96% of the day by that window.

When lydia wasn't squealing at the dog, she was destroying the entertainment center. She especially loved the light that came on when pushing the Xbox buttons. Maggie finally brought out the Calvary- two huge stuffed animals. We thought it might make a good barrier, but Lydia's a smart cookie. They didn't last for long unfortunately.

  The group!

What a fun day! Although we missed being with family, I feel like we're making memories here that will be remembered all our lives. I'm finding I can do more than I ever thought I could. Having this time away from everything we've known has been crucial for my growth in the gospel and as a wife and mother. I've also been able to break out of my quiet shell, and really get to know people. I've made some of the best friends I've had out here because i've really had to work at it. I'm grateful for all I'm learning.
Lydia's new car seat came! I figured it was time for a new one as her legs were scrunched
Iike an accordion and her head was lying off the cushion. They had a one day sale on the Britax Marathon so we bit the bullet and got it. I'm really happy with it though a little sad at the thought of this milestone. My baby's growing so fast! Whether we liked it or not, it was out with the old and in with the new. It's safe to say that lydia LOVES it. Score.

Well we hope you all have a great week! Finals are looming close on the horizon. Yikes! We,re counting down the two weeks left till we get to see you all!!

Home Again!

The end of another school year is here and with it brings our cross country road trip to Utah. Yay! We planned our trip two months in advance because my dad needed time to book our hotels. At the time, it seemed like common sense to leave right after Loren's last final on Thursday. I mean, what did we have to wait around for? The sooner the better!    Fast forward a week before we were to leave, I was seriously questioning our decision making abilities. Why didn't we just wait to leave on Friday so Loren could help me pack and finish cleaning? I still had a million things to do and couldn't get any of it done with Lydia wanting my attention. Loren was busy studying for finals and I felt guilty asking him for any help. What the blazes were we thinking?! It was a stressful time, to say the least.    One morning we woke to sirens and fire engines blaring. The visitors center had caught on fire! There was smoke everywhere and we spent the rest of the mornin...

"Grandma and Grandpa- Fun!"

One thing i've really missed while being in Virginia is going to our siblings competitions and events. It's been so fun to be able to see them all in action this month.    Todd and Brendan were both involved in a debate competition. I was really impressed with how well they did, it's a scary thing but they did great!   The Wellsville mile is one of my favorite events of the year. It seems like theres more kids every time and they keep getting faster. We were so proud of Todd and Brendan, they both ran personal best times. Lydia had a blast watching all the kids, she wanted to run with them! Todd's enterauge. Emily and her friends were able to run with him. Great job boys!   This girl has amazed me with her dancing. She's grown so much from last year and is such a gorgeous dancer. It's so much fun to watch her. We went to her end of year dance performance and had a great time. Thank goodness for Loren, he's the only one who remembers to camera to take pictu...

Thanksgiving Bash!.. and Crash

I have to say, this past week has been the most fun and exhausting week we've had in a long time.  But before we get into that, we had our first snowfall a couple weeks ago.  Lydia was DYING to make a snowman so daddy went out and helped her make one. They had a blast!   Here's some of Lydia's school papers.    The weekend before Thanksgiving our basement flooded.  One of the tubes that hook onto the gutter was pointed directly towards our house instead of away.  Thus, we had water in our family room and the unfinished room.  It kept coming in for two days.  About every 10 minutes we had to suck up the water on the first day, then about every hour on the second.  I think we have learned our lesson and plan on digging trenches to make a more efficient drainage system.  Thanks to everyone who helped! No permanent damage was done and we're so grateful.   Loren had a guys night with his...
