"Winter" Break

What a historic Spring we've had! The last time we've had so much snow was 1984. It has continued to snow all through March and most of April. I couldn't believe how it just kept coming. It was a one of those cold and blizzardy days when we had Grandpa Swan's funeral. It was a beautiful service for an amazing man. The hurst got stuck going up the hill to the cemetery so some had to get out and push. It was definitely memorable.

Our Spring break this year was cold and snowy. Desperate times called for ordering this swing for the playroom. The kids love it!

  Lydia's feelings about the snow.

Loren took the kids to the library and Lydia came home with these. She's excited to get out rock hounding with Grandpa Peck soon.

I went to put Jace down for his nap and found this cute little baby there instead. Hudson told me not to wake him!

Hudson loves his remote control car he got from Uncle Nate and Aunt Kiana.

What do you do when it's a blizzard outside during Spring Break? Go swimming of course! We were glad Brayden came along too.

By Wednesday of Spring Break we were all ready for a change of scene. We braved another snow storm and drove down to Thanksgiving Point for the day. What a fun time we had! We got the explorer pass which gave us access to the Butterfly Biosphere, Farm Land, The Museum of Ancient Life, Museum of Natural Curiosity and Ashton Gardens. We started with the Butterfly Biosphere.

We saw so many butterflies!

Lydia was thrilled when one landed on her finger.

Jace's face cracks me up.

There were many more insects and bugs to see outside the butterfly area. Lydia loved holding the centipede. Hudson thought he wanted to hold it too and just when it touched his hand, he chucked it into the beyond. The employee frantically ran around trying to find it before it was squished. We decided to hastily move to a different part of the museum.

Next up was the Museum of Ancient Life. We walked through the different eras of the world and saw lots of cool skeletons and learned some new things too.

After we saw everything we wanted to see, we decided to check out farm land. It was really cold and most everything was outside. We didn't spend a lot of time there but did get a horse ride and hung out in the play area. We'll have to go back when it's warmer and see what else they have.

Because of the weather we weren't able to see Ashton Gardens, which made me really sad because it's so beautiful. Another reason to go back.

Our last stop was the Museum of Natural Curiosity. There's always so much to do and explore.

I may have lost Hudson when I sent him down the slide in the play area. When I couldn't find him at the bottom, I spent the next fifteen minutes in a sweaty panic running all over. Thankfully, an employee found him and returned him to Loren. Scariest fifteen minutes of my life for sure. After that, with tears streaming down his face he said, "I'm ready to go home." We wore him right out and he slept the whole ride home. What a fun, full day.

Loren spent so many hours practicing for this musical number for Easter. I was blown away with how beautiful it turned out. Loren is progressing quickly on the organ and had an opportunity to play for the Saturday session of Stake Conference. Mom Peck was kind enough to stay with the kids so I could turn pages for him. Again, he played so beautifully and I was incredibly proud of him.

Grass sighting! Jace's first time in the swing!

First bike ride! I've been waiting for this day for a long time. I wasn't able to ride at all last year because of being pregnant and then we had a newborn. What a happy happy day when I could bust out the baby seat and go on our first ride!

Teething woes. This guy can usually be found with a carrot in his mouth. He now has his two bottom and top teeth.

Jace is nine months old! He's officially been out as long as he was in. It's gone so fast and so slow. Par for the course during the first year. He's really close to crawling and is such a happy, sweet little squishy.

Em, my mom and I have been watching the Anne of Green Gables series. I really look forward to our movie nights. Living close is just the best.

We had our first cookout at Chris and Kristens. Yay for Spring!

Loren is the sweetest. He always leaves little treats for me to find.

Allie is Jace's main entertainer during Hudson's nap.

Jace was really tired here but I had to get a picture of him in his cute outfit. The girls have three more weeks of school until summer break. It always comes so fast for some reason. We're definitely ready for summer fun!

Home Again!

The end of another school year is here and with it brings our cross country road trip to Utah. Yay! We planned our trip two months in advance because my dad needed time to book our hotels. At the time, it seemed like common sense to leave right after Loren's last final on Thursday. I mean, what did we have to wait around for? The sooner the better!    Fast forward a week before we were to leave, I was seriously questioning our decision making abilities. Why didn't we just wait to leave on Friday so Loren could help me pack and finish cleaning? I still had a million things to do and couldn't get any of it done with Lydia wanting my attention. Loren was busy studying for finals and I felt guilty asking him for any help. What the blazes were we thinking?! It was a stressful time, to say the least.    One morning we woke to sirens and fire engines blaring. The visitors center had caught on fire! There was smoke everywhere and we spent the rest of the mornin...

"Grandma and Grandpa- Fun!"

One thing i've really missed while being in Virginia is going to our siblings competitions and events. It's been so fun to be able to see them all in action this month.    Todd and Brendan were both involved in a debate competition. I was really impressed with how well they did, it's a scary thing but they did great!   The Wellsville mile is one of my favorite events of the year. It seems like theres more kids every time and they keep getting faster. We were so proud of Todd and Brendan, they both ran personal best times. Lydia had a blast watching all the kids, she wanted to run with them! Todd's enterauge. Emily and her friends were able to run with him. Great job boys!   This girl has amazed me with her dancing. She's grown so much from last year and is such a gorgeous dancer. It's so much fun to watch her. We went to her end of year dance performance and had a great time. Thank goodness for Loren, he's the only one who remembers to camera to take pictu...

Thanksgiving Bash!.. and Crash

I have to say, this past week has been the most fun and exhausting week we've had in a long time.  But before we get into that, we had our first snowfall a couple weeks ago.  Lydia was DYING to make a snowman so daddy went out and helped her make one. They had a blast!   Here's some of Lydia's school papers.    The weekend before Thanksgiving our basement flooded.  One of the tubes that hook onto the gutter was pointed directly towards our house instead of away.  Thus, we had water in our family room and the unfinished room.  It kept coming in for two days.  About every 10 minutes we had to suck up the water on the first day, then about every hour on the second.  I think we have learned our lesson and plan on digging trenches to make a more efficient drainage system.  Thanks to everyone who helped! No permanent damage was done and we're so grateful.   Loren had a guys night with his...
