A Birthday and Brain Injury

Aaron turned eleven years old! We celebrated at The Jump Zone and had a blast.

The clan minus Allie and Livi.

After having fun at the Jump Zone, Allie and Loren continued the party with their one-on-one date at IHOP for dinner. Allie thought her smiley face pancake was the coolest thing ever. After that they went to PetsMart to look at the animals then picked out a cute headband at Old Navy. I feel it's so important to take one-on-one time with each of the kids. I hope Allie felt how loved she is.

On the day of Aaron's real birthday we went to Pizza Pie Cafe for dinner. I was a little worried about the kids, we haven't all been to a restaurant... have we all been to a restaurant? I don't even think we have! We ended up having a lovely time with Mom and Dad as the kids were glued to this show the whole time.

  We love our dance parties!

Lydia lost ANOTHER tooth! Look at that adorable gummy smile.

The tooth fairy finally remembered to leave money under her pillow but then this happened.

We've decided to hold Allie back a year instead of sending her to Kindergarten this year. We feel it's the right decision for her. She'll do another year of preschool with Liz three times a week. I'm excited to spend more time with my girl.

The kids had fun in the snow with Grandma Rigby and Brayden the other day. Brayd helped them make an awesome snowman.

Right before we had gone to my mom's, I was carrying all the kids snow stuff in my hands as I walked out the garage door and to the car. I must have bumped a board that was leaning on the wall because it fell and hit my head. The next thing I remember is laying on the floor of the garage with a THROBBING headache. Although it hurt like the dickens I got up and went on with the day. The next day went relatively normal aside from a little headache. The day after that things went downhill pretty fast. It was hard to talk and my voice was weak and quiet. I was super emotional, like sobbing at nothing. It felt better to keep my eyes closed and I was really tired. Even with all that happening, a concussion never entered my mind. I just figured I'd feel better in a few days. My family was worried and my dad offered to take me to a doctor Todd goes to for his concussion. I was sure I'd be better in a few days and said I'd be ok.
A couple days later Mom Peck came by to pick up Allie to play at her house. As I was putting her in the car I was explaining what had happened. Out of nowhere I lost it, sobbing buckets of tears. I felt  completely embarrassed wondering what was wrong with me. Kerry kept the kids overnight so I could get a good night's rest. The next day I felt a little better and went out to Avon to pick up the kids. Kerry could sense something was still off when I got there and she scheduled an appointment for me to meet with Sharik, Loren's uncle. He works with people who have chronic pain and have had concussions. It was amazing how much better I felt walking out of his office than going in. He confirmed that I did indeed have a significant concussion. It was validating to hear that and know that I wasn't just going crazy. The Rezzimax Tuner is truly amazing and I know my recovery has been speed up because of it.
It's been over two weeks since my concussion and I'm doing so much better. The only lingering side affect is headaches and fatigue every few days or so. It's quite remarkable as Sharik has seen people with the same sort of concussion I've had take years to fully recover. I'm so blessed and beyond grateful.
Thinking about my family literally brings me to tears. My parents checked on me everyday and took the kids so I could rest. My dad was willing to drop everything to take me to Orem to meet with a special doctor. My mom picked up Lydia from school and made us dinner and brought yummy snacks often.
I am so grateful for Mom Peck for being inspired to make that appointment for me. I guess I didn't see how bad it really was, and wonder how long of a recovery I would have had if she'd not taken me in. She literally dropped everything and spent her entire day driving me to Richmond, taking pictures and notes of the exercises so I could remember, listening to and validating my fears and pain. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes as I think about how much I love her. She is such a blessing in my life. I know not everyone is as fortunate as I and it humbles me even more. My goal in life is to try and emulate my parent's love, sacrifice and selflessness.

There were many days Mom Peck had all five grandkids at the same time. Kristen had her baby a couple weeks ago about the same time as I got my concussion. She was switching heavy carseats out of cars like six times a day. I imagine she has some nice biceps or a good backache by now. These kids love their time spent in Avon.

Hudson dumped a whole box of Cheerios the other day. At least he kept them in a neat pile.

Loren had a family history Young Men activity the other night. He found out he resembles his third great-grandpa Norton Edward Tuttle.

There's nothing like holding a sweet newborn. We love Tessa!

We got together to celebrate Jon's birthday on Sunday. Bless his heart for playing game after game of chess with Lydia. She LOVES it and is always wondering where Jon is and if he can play with her. He's so patient and kind. What a fun uncle!

Hudson trying out the seat of the chair.

It's looking like a chair and is so beautiful!

Sharik wanted to follow up with me and I knew my mom would benefit from the Rezzimax so I brought her along too. I didn't even know this but apparently my mom has had a couple numb toes for years. Sharik was able to get feeling back into them and also help her neck, back and knee pain. She ended up buying a tuner and I'm so grateful she's found something that can help her chronic pain. Wish we would have got her one years ago. We stopped at Beehive Grill on the way home and had a wonderful girls night out. I love my mom and how she still supports and loves me in all I do. I love talking with her and spending time with her. She's such a special Grandma and I'm so grateful she shares her gifts with my kids.

I got talked into being Lydia's soccer coach this season. I've been busy preparing for a parents meeting and planning out practices. Though I'm a little nervous, I'm mostly just excited. I hope I can make it fun and that the kids will have a memorable experience. Allie's signed up for Super STARt soccer which means she goes once a week for about an hour of fun stations and drills to help her get ready for soccer games next year. The next few months are looking busy but we're so ready. Can't wait for the warmth and fun that Spring brings!

Home Again!

The end of another school year is here and with it brings our cross country road trip to Utah. Yay! We planned our trip two months in advance because my dad needed time to book our hotels. At the time, it seemed like common sense to leave right after Loren's last final on Thursday. I mean, what did we have to wait around for? The sooner the better!    Fast forward a week before we were to leave, I was seriously questioning our decision making abilities. Why didn't we just wait to leave on Friday so Loren could help me pack and finish cleaning? I still had a million things to do and couldn't get any of it done with Lydia wanting my attention. Loren was busy studying for finals and I felt guilty asking him for any help. What the blazes were we thinking?! It was a stressful time, to say the least.    One morning we woke to sirens and fire engines blaring. The visitors center had caught on fire! There was smoke everywhere and we spent the rest of the mornin...

"Grandma and Grandpa- Fun!"

One thing i've really missed while being in Virginia is going to our siblings competitions and events. It's been so fun to be able to see them all in action this month.    Todd and Brendan were both involved in a debate competition. I was really impressed with how well they did, it's a scary thing but they did great!   The Wellsville mile is one of my favorite events of the year. It seems like theres more kids every time and they keep getting faster. We were so proud of Todd and Brendan, they both ran personal best times. Lydia had a blast watching all the kids, she wanted to run with them! Todd's enterauge. Emily and her friends were able to run with him. Great job boys!   This girl has amazed me with her dancing. She's grown so much from last year and is such a gorgeous dancer. It's so much fun to watch her. We went to her end of year dance performance and had a great time. Thank goodness for Loren, he's the only one who remembers to camera to take pictu...

Thanksgiving Bash!.. and Crash

I have to say, this past week has been the most fun and exhausting week we've had in a long time.  But before we get into that, we had our first snowfall a couple weeks ago.  Lydia was DYING to make a snowman so daddy went out and helped her make one. They had a blast!   Here's some of Lydia's school papers.    The weekend before Thanksgiving our basement flooded.  One of the tubes that hook onto the gutter was pointed directly towards our house instead of away.  Thus, we had water in our family room and the unfinished room.  It kept coming in for two days.  About every 10 minutes we had to suck up the water on the first day, then about every hour on the second.  I think we have learned our lesson and plan on digging trenches to make a more efficient drainage system.  Thanks to everyone who helped! No permanent damage was done and we're so grateful.   Loren had a guys night with his...
