July is probably the busiest month of the year for us. There's five birthday's in the Peck family and three in the Rigby's plus reunions and the Fourth of July. Fun times!
I've started giving out popsicles to the neighbor kids and now they come in droves.
My cute matching boys.
We celebrated Charlie's 15th birthday on July 2nd. Loren and I were able to go up together to his grave and just enjoy being close to him.
Then it was time for sparklers, Little Caesars Pizza and Frosty's. Every birthday Allie has signifies how many years we've been without Charlie. It's difficult to think that she and Hudson will never feel the grief of losing him. There will always be a piece missing from our family and it truly makes me sorrowful they will never feel it. I guess that's why its so important to take time to remember and to make sure the kids know how much we love him. I've always imagined that he has a good talk with the spirits who are still waiting to come to our family. I imagine he tells them how much he loves them and to keep their testimonies strong. So I guess, in reality, these kids do know him. They've talked with him before and felt his love. That's really comforting.
If there's one thing I can always count on it's the Fourth of July traditions. We started the day with Grandpa raising the flag while Ryan played the trumpet.
I didn't check the weather because I assumed it was going to be a hot day. It turned out to be chilly! Lydia wore a jacket for most the day and everyone opted to sit in the sun rather than the shade. I can't ever remember a cold Fourth of July.
Then it was time for the bike races! The kids were divided into age groups. Allie was thrilled to participate this year.
Then it was Lydia's turn. As she crossed the finish line in last place, she had the biggest frown on her face. This girl doesn't like to lose.
Next was the parade. Grandma and Grandpa stole the show, it was so cute!
Todd was the Fourth of July balloon. So funny!
After the parade the inflatables went up. The only problem was that it was freezing! All the kids were shivering but were still determined to have fun. It took quite a bit to get Lydia to slide down, the kids were chanting for her and encouraging her. She finally did and decided one time was enough.
Allie was content to stay in the bouncy house.
Dru pulled out his snow cone maker. I had Georgia Peach and it was delicious! A part of me secretly wanted hot chocolate though.
We got Brayd and Todd to go down the slide right before the rainstorm hit.
It was a great Fourth of July. It did feel a little different with all my family gone, we missed them. I sure hope they'll all be around next year.
Lydia and Lindy randomly wore the same shirt this morning. They thought it was the coolest thing ever.
I'm so glad the girls have such great friends. Lydia, Allie and MJ had an apple snack before they got back to "rolly polly" hunting. I can usually find a slew of kids picking our raspberries or drawing with chalk. Summer is the best.
