A Trip to the Olympic Park

Hello, August! Why must the summer always fly by? I'm definitely not ready to see it go.

Thursday was Loren's 'Goodbye Lunch' at work. As per tradition, the clerk leaving must bring something to share for lunch, give a speech about what their top ten experiences were while working and bestow a gift to the judge. Who knew quitting a job could be so stressful? Loren and I wracked our brains trying to decide what to get the judge but nothing seemed right. Loren finally decided on a really nice cowboy hat since Judge Stewart is a rancher. Most clerk's give gifts in the $200-$300 range so there was a bit of pressure to get him something really meaningful. I hope the hat lives up to expectations. We stopped by Harmons to get something for Loren to take to the lunch. He saw a Jackfruit and immediately knew that's what he wanted. Loren had Jackfruit almost everyday in the Philippines and was so excited to try it again. To me it looked like moldy pineapple but I conceded to try it.

As soon as we got home Loren proceeded to hack the thing up. I couldn't believe how much work it took to get the fruit out. After like 30 minutes, Loren yielded a tiny bowl of fruit. Surprisingly, it was really good! Weird texture but sweet and tangy. It was fun to try and even more fun to see how excited it made Loren.

Saturday we went to the Utah Olympic Park in Park City with Cam, Mary and Greyson. If you fancy an adrenaline rush, this is the place to be!

The kids had fun playing at the discovery park.

I don't know if you can see, but over to the left is a long zip line. You ride a chair lift up to the top of the mountain and zip line down. Mary and I were brave enough to try it and it was a blast!

Mary and I at the end of the zip line. What a rush!

Cam and Loren getting ready for the adventure course. They did the hardest one!

Still smiling afterwards.

Mary and I's view from the top of the mountain where we would start the zip line.

The scariest part was at the beginning when you sat in front of these swinging doors, awaiting the drop. Then after that, it was pure fun!

Allie was a trooper. I love her scrunchy nose!

We rode a chair lift back up to the main buildings. The kids loved it.

Such a fun time! Hopefully we can go back soon!

The other day we went with some friends to the Foxboro splash pad and then ate lunch at an elementary school nearby. Lydia loved it. Hopefully her enthusiasm for cafeteria food stays all through her school years.

Lydia chose an ice cream cone and the play place as a reward for filling up her good-listener chart.

Last Friday Loren finally convinced me to make a dentist appointment for everyone. I've been seriously dreading it and have been dragging my feet for over two years. After Lydia's pregnancy, I got 12 cavities after never having one in my life before. I was positive after having Allie that I'd have at least that many. I dreaded having to pay $1500 or more to fill them all. But I finally succumbed to my fate and off we went. I was a little nervous about Lydia, since it was her first time, but she did so well. They had a hard time getting her to lean all the way back in the chair and had to bribe her with the TV on the ceiling. She did everything they asked her to and didn't cry at all. I was so proud! And no cavities! Then it was my turn. Prepared for the worst, I begrudgingly waited for the count of cavities I had. The dentist came in, told me to floss better then said I could go. I sat there for a moment, then asked, "Oh, but how many cavities do I have?" He replied, "None." On the outside I as cool and calm. On the inside, I was screaming, happy dancing and crying tears of complete joy. Loren couldn't believe it either. We went to Cafe Rio to celebrate our joyous luck.

Lydia sometimes asks about my wedding ring. I tell her daddy gave it to me because he loves me. The other day she dressed up and this conversation ensued:

I love this girl so much! We're gearing up for the last few weeks of summer. I hope they don't go too fast.

Home Again!

The end of another school year is here and with it brings our cross country road trip to Utah. Yay! We planned our trip two months in advance because my dad needed time to book our hotels. At the time, it seemed like common sense to leave right after Loren's last final on Thursday. I mean, what did we have to wait around for? The sooner the better!    Fast forward a week before we were to leave, I was seriously questioning our decision making abilities. Why didn't we just wait to leave on Friday so Loren could help me pack and finish cleaning? I still had a million things to do and couldn't get any of it done with Lydia wanting my attention. Loren was busy studying for finals and I felt guilty asking him for any help. What the blazes were we thinking?! It was a stressful time, to say the least.    One morning we woke to sirens and fire engines blaring. The visitors center had caught on fire! There was smoke everywhere and we spent the rest of the mornin...

"Grandma and Grandpa- Fun!"

One thing i've really missed while being in Virginia is going to our siblings competitions and events. It's been so fun to be able to see them all in action this month.    Todd and Brendan were both involved in a debate competition. I was really impressed with how well they did, it's a scary thing but they did great!   The Wellsville mile is one of my favorite events of the year. It seems like theres more kids every time and they keep getting faster. We were so proud of Todd and Brendan, they both ran personal best times. Lydia had a blast watching all the kids, she wanted to run with them! Todd's enterauge. Emily and her friends were able to run with him. Great job boys!   This girl has amazed me with her dancing. She's grown so much from last year and is such a gorgeous dancer. It's so much fun to watch her. We went to her end of year dance performance and had a great time. Thank goodness for Loren, he's the only one who remembers to camera to take pictu...

Thanksgiving Bash!.. and Crash

I have to say, this past week has been the most fun and exhausting week we've had in a long time.  But before we get into that, we had our first snowfall a couple weeks ago.  Lydia was DYING to make a snowman so daddy went out and helped her make one. They had a blast!   Here's some of Lydia's school papers.    The weekend before Thanksgiving our basement flooded.  One of the tubes that hook onto the gutter was pointed directly towards our house instead of away.  Thus, we had water in our family room and the unfinished room.  It kept coming in for two days.  About every 10 minutes we had to suck up the water on the first day, then about every hour on the second.  I think we have learned our lesson and plan on digging trenches to make a more efficient drainage system.  Thanks to everyone who helped! No permanent damage was done and we're so grateful.   Loren had a guys night with his...
