Loren is now officially done with law school classes forever!! He definitely went through some withdrawals Friday morning when he woke up and realized he didn't have to start working on anything. Happy day! Lydia was more than happy for some quality daddy time.
Loren took Lydia on a nature walk while I went to a Relief Society Conference. They had a blast!
This girl loves her some "fluff".
She always makes us stop to pick any fluff within reach.
Last Sunday we went to Lake Robertson with Clint, Michelle and Adeline. It was such a fun afternoon. These guys have become our closest friends and I don't know what we're going to do without them.
I spy with my little eye.. a giant squid!
It's such a pretty drive to the lake. This house is crazy, the only way to it is over this long bridge.
We're going to miss these rolling hills!
The first night in a really long time Loren and I were able to just sit on our deck and talk.
We celebrated the end of school with a day trip to DC. Sarah, Loren's sister, came to DC for a presentation for school so we drove down to spend the day with her. I was a little worried at how Lydia would handle the 7 hours in the car plus being stuck in the stroller most of the day. Well I worried for naught because she loved it! We told her we were going to the city and every time she saw a big building she'd say, "Look at the big city!" Everything was so exciting to her. I guess that means either we need to get out more or she's destined to be a city girl.
Our first stop was the Arlington Cemetery. It was so beautiful and humbling to be there. I had no idea how big it was either, it just kept going as far as the eye could see.
Loren and Sarah. It was so fun to see her. She was a fabulous tour guide and helped us navigate all the metros and streets.
Robert E Lee's home.
Inside Robert E Lee's home.
Lydia loved her time with Aunt Sarah. Don't step on a crack!
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
One of our many metro rides. Lydia was in heaven.
We met up with our friend, Emily for lunch. It was so fun to see her.
Next we went to the Renwick Gallery. What an amazing place! Every room had a different sculpture or piece of art. An artist was assigned to a room and they had free reign on what they could create. All the museums Lydia has been to are children's museums where she can touch and play with things. It was hard for her to understand she definitely could not touch anything, as the security guard enforced to her when she got a little too close. This was her 'I really want to touch the colors' face.
These are made out of tiny pieces of paper. I don't even want to think about how long it took to finish.
The bug room was so cool! There were so many different kinds of bugs, all shapes and sizes. Even the paint was made out of bug juice.
Washington Monument.
Next we went to the Museum of American History. I'm pretty sure we spent at least a couple hours in there because there was just so much to see.
Dorothy's original ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz.
I was really surprised to see a sunstone from the Nauvoo temple on display. Pretty cool!
Elmo donated by Jim Henson.
Sadly, by the time we had gone through the museum we were totally beat. "We" actually means mostly just me. I couldn't feel my feet anymore. I'm sure Loren and Sarah could have kept going but they took pity on me and we decided to call it a day. This was taken outside of Union Station where we ate dinner and traveled back to the Arlington Cemetery for our car.
We dropped Sarah off at her hotel and as soon as she was gone Lydia said, "We had fun time with Sarah." We sure did! About ten minutes into our drive home I turned around to this. She couldn't even stay awake to finish turning the page. What a full, fun day.
The next day we went to Cave Mountain Lake with the Williams and Stanley's. It was a little chilly but the kids still had lots of fun playing in the sand and chasing little lizards in the water.
Tons of little lizards!
Whew, what a weekend. Now it's time to hit the cleaning and packing hard. Lydia's been a good helper. She's excited for Grandpa Peck, Sarah and Rachel to get here on Thursday.
We're going to try and enjoy this last full week of being in Lexington. Can't believe it's almost over. Love you all!
I hope this does not end the fun, cute blogs. You will be doing great things here that we won't know about until you write. Keep up the good work! Congratulations, Loren!
