This week felt like an eternity. If there ever was a "honeymoon" stage to our third year it's dead and in its grave. Between law review, the armed forces appeal, mock trial, classes and the Black Lung Clinic Loren hardly has a free minute. If I had come into the third year thinking it was just a normal year of law school, it would have helped a lot. I feel like this year has been even more stressful than the other two combined. The 3rd year is supposed to be the most relaxing, but somehow we missed that ship. I'm really proud of all that Loren's doing though. I think he's getting some real life experiences that he never would have otherwise. I just wish it was all a little more spread out.
So with Loren gone so much, Lydia and have had A LOT of quality bonding time together. We've had good days and we've had flat out terrible ones. Lydia is very determined and knows exactly what she wants. When she doesn't get it, it's usually the fit of the century. I'm trying to find ways to overcome this. I've tried talking it out, putting her in the crib for time-out, talking softly and just ignoring it. Her tantrums usually never last too long, thankfully, but they're emotionally and physically draining. It's easy for me to feel like a failure when she won't listen or follow instructions. Thank goodness she makes up for it with her big hugs and kisses. I'm not sure where we'd be without those saving graces.
Lydia loved her new bib so much she wore it for 2 hours. "Oh so cute, baby chick!"
Yogurt face and body painting.
Thank goodness we had Friday and Saturday to look forward to! Friday morning we went with the Mom's Club to a local rest home for a costume parade and visiting with the residents. Lydia was a ladybug (again) this year, but this time we added wings, much to her delight.
The lengths Michelle and I went to get these two to smile were ridiculous. We should have taken a picture of us on the other side jumping like kangaroos and blowing raspberries. Apparently, it wasn't enough. I wished Charlie would have been there, he's really the only one who can get Lydia to smile for a picture!
After a tried but failed nap, we went trick-or-treating in downtown Lexington. Lydia got quite the haul, much to mine and Loren's joy.
She would stop in the middle of the crowded sidewalk to take in all her candy. She'd pick out all the suckers and hold them in her hands.
Another balloon!
An hour later we headed to our ward Fall Festival. There was a chili cook off, a costume parade and trick or treating at the different classrooms.

Another successful Halloween. Thanks, Lyddie! We left you the suckers and Frozen pretzels :)
Halloween has never been my favorite holiday. I think the most creative costume I've ever come up with was a stick of gum or a bag of leaves. I've just never seen how paying $20 for a costume you wear for maybe 2 hours is a good idea. Unless you wear said costume every Halloween for the rest of your life. That's probably the poor law student wife in me talking so to each their own. I actually really like when other people get into it, it's fun to see the creativity and awesomeness of planned costumes and parties.
This year we went to a Halloween party at our friends' the Poulsen's. They went all out, decorating their basement as a haunted house which was really convincing. There was good food, great friends and fun games. We won the best couples costume, which I guess is what a Goodwill run an hour before the party for 2 bandanas will do, and Lydia won the cutest costume. We got skeleton trophies that were so cute. It was such a fun time.
