So the first week of March looks something like this here in Virginia:
Yuck. Where did our spring go? At least Loren get's to stay home and party with us today. Hopefully it will all melt away before spring break next week, which we're counting down for. Loren can't wait to have a break from classes.
Lydia has been sleeping so much better! We broke down and bought a Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit because the swaddle just wasn't working anymore. We were a little skeptical as it looked like an oversize snowsuit. Wouldn't she sweat to death? But desperate times call for desperate measures. Turns out, if we keep the room a little cool she doesn't get hot at all. She slept for eight hours in it one night! That's what we call magic.
Loren was invited to the Admitted Students Weekend lunch on Saturday. Perspective law students from all around come to visit the school to decide if W&L is the right fit for them. We were at the same event last year and Loren had some major deja-vu answering the same questions he asked 1L's the year before. I'm so glad we chose W&L and to be here in Lexington. It's such a fun little town and is slowly starting to feel like home. Loren's glad he's not in those student's shoes now though!
Loren and I had an interesting experience last night. We actually got out of the house to go to a dinner with the "law families" group. We ate grits for the first time ever! Cant say that I'm a fan. Lydia was tired even before we left, so we knew she wouldn't last long, and sure enough, after an hour she lost it and was crying. We were getting ready to get up and leave when this couple with 4 kids from Minnesota started talking to us. Craziest thing -- Lydia just stopped crying and sat there while we talked with them. Loren had a great talk with the husband, Mike, who is also a 1L. I talked to the wife, Beth. She asked me who I hung out with besides law students. Like, did I know any other moms? My throat went dry and I instantly broke out in a cold sweat. Do I tell her about the church? Should I actually be a missionary? Haha, but seriously, it's harder than I thought! I decided to just go for it and here's how the conversation went:
"Yeah actually, I do things with the women of my church. Most of them are moms and they're really great people."
"Oh, what church is that?"
"The LDS church, we're Mormon."
"There's an LDS church here?"
"Yeah, its on such and such street."
"That's not far from our house. You know, my husband and I have been looking for a church, and we've been to a couple but they just seem so ... traditional, not that traditional is a bad thing."
"Well, some moms are getting together for lunch this friday at our church, we just eat and talk while the kids play. You could meet some of them and I could pick you up if you want."
"That sounds like fun. What's your number?" And then Lydia started crying again. Too weird, right? Almost like ... it was meant to be? We'll see, but they are a great family and we hit it right off with them. I'm so nervous that I'm going to mess it up though. I dont want to scare her off but it's just weird how she said that they were looking for a church. We'll keep you updated!
Keepin' an eye on the parents. Yeah, I saw you take the last cookie..
Oatmeal cookie pancakes. Delish!
Loren showed me the picture on the left yesterday and I was like, "where did Lydia get those pajamas? Wait a second.." It took me a full minute to realize it wasn't Lydia at all but Sarah Peck! It might be safe to say she looks more like Lydia as a baby than I do! She even has the eyelashes and everything.
Well on to another week! Hope it's a great one for you and we'll see ya next time!
