Lydia is now 11 weeks old! I can't believe how fast the time has gone. We have had a lot of adventures since we last posted, the main one being our trip to Utah.
The last week of November Lydia had her 2 month shots. It was a miserable week- I'm seriously DREADING the 4 month ones. She cried constantly and didn't sleep much. Even though she wasn't doing the best, that Thursday was Thanksgiving and Loren and I really wanted to get out of Lexington for a bit. We decided to drive to Roanoke and try the Golden Corral, which was ironic because I remember driving past that restaurant in years past thinking, "Who would go to a restaurant for Thanksgiving? Poor people!" Funny how life works sometimes. We got there and were amazed at how many people were in line! We weren't sure how long Lydia was going to sleep but decided to risk waiting in line. Sadly, she woke up and we had to take turns holding her as the other one ate/got their food. We finished eating and were so proud we made it though without a serious breakdown. It was a Thanksgiving to remember!
After five days of continuing to have the vaccine symptoms, we took her into the pediatrician. They told us they were worried about meningitis so we should take her to the hospital and have blood work done along with a chest x-ray. Well, I wasn't about to have more needles stuck into her and thought doing all those tests was a bit extreme. We decided not to take the doctors advice but just see if she got better on her own. I was a nervous wreck as she and I were flying to Utah in just two days. I didn't want her to get even more sick from the airport germs. I kept her home from church and to my extreme happiness started to see improvement.
Loren drove us to my cousin's in Maryland the next day because she was going to take us to the airport on Tuesday. After a tearful goodbye to Loren, I tried to get some sleep before the big day of traveling. The next day my cousin drove Lydia and I to the DC Airport. I hadn't fed Lydia very well before because we were late, so she was a little fussy as we wheeled into the terminal. Well, little fussy turned into, "if I'm not fed right this second everyone in the airport will know how angry I am" scream. Liz, my cousin, tried wheeling her around in the stroller while I got out tickets but she wasn't fazed. We only had about an hour and a half till take-off and I still hadn't gone through security yet. Sweating buckets, we both ran down concourse to security. I put a screaming Lydia into the Moby wrap I was wearing, grabbed my carry-on in one hand and diaper bag strapped to the stroller/car seat in the other. Liz looked at me helplessly and asked the security agent if she could help me through. They said no but one of the agents offered to take my carry-on bag. We made it though pretty quick and I started jogging towards the gate, still with a screaming Lydia in tow. I finally found the gate, slumped down in a chair and fed her. Whew!
Thank you to everyone who prayed for us! After that little show, Lydia slept the whole time on the plane. We were so blessed! I know the people around me were grateful too :) We've had a lot of fun seeing family- I forgot how nice it is to have extra hands to help during the day. We miss Loren A LOT though! We're getting so very excited to see him on Sunday! He took 4 finals and is wiped out and ready for a break. We're excited for these next few weeks that we're here to be with family!
